Social Emotional Learning

Developing students’ social and emotional skills helps schools develop safe learning environments that foster academic opportunities for all. Social and emotional learning means the processes by which children acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to: • recognize and manage their emotions, • demonstrate caring and concern for others, • establish positive relationships, • make responsible decisions, and • constructively handle challenging social situations (MA DESE, SEL Learning Standards). These skills are integrated in the learning throughout the day. Additionally, an age appropriate program is implemented called Second Step and Steps To Respect.sel
